Thailand: Hitachi Energy is investing $14 M (TBH455 M) to expand its power transformer factory in Samutprakarn, Thailand. The move is part of the company’s global $9 B investment plan to meet rising electricity demand worldwide.

Set for completion by the end of 2027, the expansion will increase the factory’s production capacity by 60 % and speed up delivery times. The upgrades include advanced technology, improved layouts, and high health and safety standards to ensure safer and more sustainable operations.

A key part of the project is the modernisation of the power transformer test lab, which will be better equipped to meet the growing need for large power transformers. New dedicated zones for assembly and testing will make tasks more organised and reduce workplace risks.

Carlos Pettinau, Hub APMEA Manager, said, “This investment supports both Thailand and the global energy transition by improving supply of vital grid equipment.”

The factory, operational since 1990, produces liquid-filled power transformers that help move and stabilise electricity across grids. Built on Hitachi Energy’s TrafoStar technology, it is one of 17 such facilities worldwide.

This investment not only boosts production but also supports job creation and strengthens local communities, making the Samutprakarn plant a key part of the region’s sustainable energy future.
