Switzerland, Zurich: Hitachi Energy has been named the world’s largest supplier of grid automation products and services, according to a new study published by ARC Advisory Group.
The research, Grid Automation Global Market Study 2024-2029, placed Hitachi Energy in the No. 1 position for overall market share in grid automation across transmission and distribution utilities.
The report found that the company leads in several software categories, including grid control and management, outage management, and artificial intelligence applications. It also ranked first in hardware segments such as measurement devices, wireless and wired networks, and remote terminal units (RTUs).
“Grid automation is essential to operating and maintaining the modern grid,” said Richard Rys, director of consulting at ARC Advisory and lead researcher for the study. “Our market share analysis of suppliers in this competitive space shows Hitachi Energy at the top of the leaderboard.”
ARC’s findings highlight strong global demand for automation technologies as power systems adapt to increasing electrification, more renewable generation, and the integration of storage assets. Growth has been particularly notable in regions upgrading grids after extreme weather events or conflicts.
The report notes that the grid automation market is at a turning point, with digitalisation and advanced monitoring playing a greater role in strengthening resilience and enabling the transition to cleaner energy.
