Hitachi Energy to expand dry-type transformer factory in Spain
Hitachi Energy will invest €30 million to relocate and expand its dry-type transformer facility in Zaragoza, Spain.

Spain, Zaragoza: Hitachi Energy will invest €30 million to relocate and expand its dry-type transformer facility in Zaragoza, Spain, to a new state-of-the-art facility at the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza). Set for completion by the end of 2026, the 22000 m2 complex will be LEED Gold certified in sustainable architectural design.
According to Verónica Ruiz, Hub Europe Product Line Manager for Distribution and Traction Transformers at Hitachi Energy: “The investment project, which is part of the company’s global plan to invest over $1.5 billion to ramp up transformer capacity, demonstrates the confidence placed in the Zaragoza team and our commitment to enable the energy transition and sustainable growth.”
The investment includes new machinery and automation to boost production capacity, addressing the growing demand for transformers. The Zaragoza factory has a heritage of providing solutions for energy distribution.
Alfredo Garcia-Borreguero, Country Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Spain, commented: “Electricity will be the backbone of the entire energy system. Investments in transformers in Spain reinforce our commitment to meet growing global demand with speed and scale while positively impacting local communities.”
