Brazil: Hitachi Energy has announced an investment of over $200 million to significantly enhance its operations in Brazil, as part of its $1.5 billion investment plan to ramp up global transformer manufacturing capacity. This was announced during the celebration of Hitachi Energy’s 70th anniversary in Brazil.

The investment is the largest one-time investment made by the company in the country the past decades and will create more than 600 direct jobs. It includes the expansion and modernization of the Guarulhos transformer factory in São Paulo and the construction of a state-of-the-art greenfield transformer facility, expected to be set up by 2028.

“We are experiencing unprecedent momentum in the energy industry, with the energy transition demanding all the relevant stakeholders to collaborate and take urgent action toward a more sustainable future for all. At Hitachi Energy we are leading this change and investing to expand our global footprint, to meet our customers’ long-term needs and positively impact our communities,” said Bruno Melles, Managing Director, Transformers Business, Hitachi Energy.

Factories like those in Guarulhos and Blumenau in Brazil, backed by the expertise and commitment of its teams, are supporting customers across the Americas, Europe and Middle East with power, distribution transformers, shunt reactors, components and services. During its 70 years in the country, Hitachi Energy has supplied transformers for important HVDC transmissions systems like Belo Monte II, Itaipu, one of the world’s largest hydroelectric plants, and the 2375 km Rio Madeira, one of the longest and most powerful transmission links in the world.
