Howard Industries launches $100 M substation expansion
The Ellisville expansion will allow Howard Industries to produce larger transformers while creating 150 skilled jobs.

USA, Mississippi, Ellisville: The Howard Industries has broken ground on a major expansion of its substation in Ellisville, with a total investment of around $100 M. The project is expected to create approximately 150 new jobs, including engineers, technicians, fabricators, welders, and other skilled positions.
Howard Industries CEO Michael Howard highlighted the technical challenges involved. “It is a lot of work. You could have a million pounds sitting in one spot, and then you have to move that to somewhere else, so a lot of technical work goes into a plant like this.,” he said.
The expansion will allow the Ellisville substation to produce larger power transformers than currently possible, strengthening Mississippi’s role in the growing electrical manufacturing industry.
Governor Tate Reeves praised the investment, saying it will reinforce the state’s manufacturing and energy sectors and position Mississippi as a leader in technology and industrial growth. “This investment will power the next generation of growth, not just in Jones County, but across the nation,” he added.
Howard Industries, founded in 1968 by Billy Howard Sr., continues its legacy of valuing employees and customers.
