USA: LS Electric has secured a significant $70 M (105.6 B won) contract to supply extra-high-voltage (EHV) transformers to an energy infrastructure company in the United States, the firm announced on 6 April.

As part of the agreement, LS Power Solution, acquired by LS Electric in 2024, will deliver 345-kV-class transformers for a large data centre operated by a major technology company. Deliveries are planned between the fourth quarter of 2027 and the first half of 2028.

The deal strengthens LS Electric’s position in North America, where electricity demand is rapidly increasing due to the growth of AI and cloud computing. This shift is driving greater investment in reliable and efficient power infrastructure across the region.

Momentum in the sector has also been supported by a recent commitment from seven global technology firms to generate their own electricity for data centres, rather than relying solely on public grids.

LS Electric has been expanding its role across the data centre power value chain. In September last year, it secured a $46 M contract in the United States to provide power distribution systems for a microgrid project. This latest agreement extends its capabilities into EHV transformers, highlighting its strength across both transmission and distribution.

The company confirmed that the end client is a leading tech firm but did not reveal its identity due to a confidentiality agreement.

LS Power Solution is recognised as one of five key suppliers of extra-high-voltage transformers to Korea Electric Power Corp and has broadened its global reach since joining LS Electric.

The North American data centre power infrastructure market is expected to reach $37.2 B by 2035, growing at an average annual rate of 16 % from 2025.
