Mumbai suffers major power outage
India, Mumbai: Several areas in Mumbai suffered a major blackout on 12 October due to a sudden power failure.
The massive power outage affected daily life in the financial capital of India. Tata power reported that simultaneous substation tripping in MSETCL’s Kalwa, Kharghar caused a huge dip in frequency in the Mumbai transmission system which led to tripping of Mumbai power supply.
“At 10.10 a.m., there was simultaneous tripping of substations in MSETCL’s Kalwa, causing a huge dip in frequency in the Mumbai transmission system which led to tripping of Mumbai power supply. Restoration work is in progress to bring supply from the three hydro units and Trombay gas and coal units once the MSETCL transmission lines are connected. We regret the inconvenience,” the Twitter post read.
Adani Electricity said that Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) is supplying around 385 MW to critical services through AEML Dahanu. “Our teams are working to restore the supply in the affected areas at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused,” it tweeted.
There was multiple tripping of lines and transformers supplying power to Mumbai system. Restoration is underway.
“Efforts are being taken to restore the power supply as soon as possible”, said an official from the Energy Department.
