Nigerian community gains access to electricity after years of darkness

Nigeria: Ossiomo Power in Benin City in Edo State has commissioned a new 40 MW independent power plant.

The power plant will provide dedicated power to the Benin Industrial and Enterprise Park and local communities in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.

Ossiomo Power Managing Director, Dr Uwa Igiehon, said in conjunction with the Edo State government, the power plant will provide 24/7 power to Ologbo and Obayantor communities in the area.

“The plant is an addition to the existing 55 MW plant, which has been in operation in the state since 2020 and has been supplying power to government buildings, offices and streetlights among others. The street lighting project stretches for 200 km across the Benin metropolis. The Benin Enterprise Park (BEP) is a 997 ha, mixed-use development designed to accommodate light industries and residential zones,”said Igiehon, concluding “The 40 MW plant was tested on 29 December 2021, and is fully operational. At the moment, the plant is providing electricity to Ologbo and Obayantor communities in the area.”
