India, Rajastan: Powergrid Narela Transmission Ltd (PNTL), a TBCB subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), is approaching full commissioning of its interstate transmission system (ISTS) project, according to the Central Electricity Authority. The remaining works are expected to be completed by the end of November 2025.

The project forms Part G of the wider Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase-II. With an estimated cost of $180.8 M (Rs. 1,618 crore), the scheme includes 408 ckm of 765 kV transmission lines and 4,500 MVA of transformation capacity.

Two of the three elements were commissioned in October 2025, including the 765/400 kV, 3×1500 MVA Narela GIS substation and the 68 ckm LILO of the existing 765 kV Meerut–Bhiwani line at Narela. Both were delayed by almost two years due to persistent right-of-way (RoW) challenges, particularly in Haryana.

The final component, the 765 kV double-circuit Khetri–Narela transmission line spanning 340 ckm, is set for commissioning by November 2025. As of 31 October 2025, foundations had been completed at 454 of 463 tower locations. PNTL continues to address RoW issues at seven sites in Jhajjar district, through which the line passes before reaching the NCT of Delhi.

PNTL’s project is one of seven components of the Rajasthan evacuation programme, all won by PGCIL under the TBCB framework. Five components are already operational, with Part E also nearing completion. The scheme will enable transmission of 8.1 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan into the national grid.
