China, Suqian: The city of Suqian in Jiangsu province has recently completed the renovation of the 500 kV Xuzhou-Shanghai transmission line section that fell within its jurisdiction. The aim of the renovation was to ensure the line’s regular operation and further contribute to the China’s north-south electricity transmission project.
The line was first put into operation in December 1987 and connects three 500 kV substations in Jiangsu. It is mainly used to transport electricity from a Xuzhou-based coal-fired power plant to Shanghai.
Li Jun, an inspection staff from the State Grid’s Suqian Power Supply Co., said the renovation involved 68.48 kilometres of the line. All the old transmission towers have been replaced to improve the ability to resist damage. Li added that he has been responsible for inspecting and maintaining the transmission line for several decades, with an average annual patrol mileage of nearly 40000 kilometres.
“No matter what the weather or time it is, we will promptly arrive at the scene when there is an electrical hazard,” Li said.
According to him, the stability and security of the transmission line will be significantly enhanced after the renovation, while the company will continue to provide sound support for its regular operation.
