Saudi Arabia, Riyadh: Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) is moving forward with a key infrastructure initiative to support the kingdom’s expanding renewable energy network. The utility has received competitive bids for the development of a 380 kV substation at Mawqaq, located in Saudi Arabia’s central region, along with associated overhead transmission line (OHTL) projects.

The new substation, named Mawqaq PV 380 kV BSP, is a critical component of the country’s push to integrate large-scale renewable energy projects into the national grid. According to SEC, Trading & Development Partnership submitted the lowest bid for the substation contract, valued at $158 M (SAR592 M).

In addition to the substation, SEC is implementing a 380 kV overhead transmission line to connect the new facility to the existing grid. Alfanar Projects secured the lowest bid for this portion at $42.3 M (SAR159.3 M).

SEC stated that final contract awards will follow a thorough evaluation of all submitted proposals.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Power Procurement Company has issued a Request for Proposals for Round Six of the National Renewable Energy Program, overseen by the Ministry of Energy. This latest round includes renewable energy projects totaling 4,500 MW in capacity.

These developments reflect Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in cleaner energy and infrastructure modernisation, as part of its Vision 2030 goals.
