Serbia: Serbia’s transmission system operator Elektromreža Srbije signed a contract for the construction of a two-system 400 kV transmission line from the Obrenovac substation to the Bajina Bašta substation.
The project is part of the Trans-Balkan Corridor, a key regional electricity infrastructure initiative connecting Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Italy.
The 109 km transmission line is the third section of the corridor and includes switchyard upgrades at Obrenovac and a 400 kV expansion at Bajina Bašta. Construction is set to begin in April, with completion expected by 2027.
Funded by EMS, the Western Balkans Investment Framework, and Germany’s KfW Development Bank, the contract was signed by EMS CEO Jelena Matejić and Mladen Žujković of Kodar Energomontaža, selected after an international tender.
Matejić emphasized that the corridor strengthens Serbia’s role as a regional electricity hub, enhances grid stability, and increases cross-border capacity by 80 %.
