Iraq, Baghdad: Siemens Energy and the Ministry of Electricity of the Republic of Iraq have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining plans to collaborate on improving Iraq’s energy infrastructure. The MoU was signed during a visit by Christian Bruch, President and CEO of Siemens Energy, to Baghdad.
The agreement sets the framework for a long-term partnership focused on potentially adding up to 14 GW of electricity generation capacity. This marks a strategic effort to enhance Iraq’s energy reliability and sustainability using a combination of local resources and Siemens Energy’s technological capabilities.
While not a binding contract, the MoU signals a mutual intent to work together on modernising the country’s power sector, which continues to face significant challenges. Bruch emphasized the importance of strong cooperation and clear direction in delivering tangible progress for Iraq’s energy needs.
During his visit, Bruch also met with Siemens Energy’s local team in Iraq, acknowledging their daily contributions to supporting the country’s energy demands.
The success of this initiative will depend on continued commitment from both Siemens Energy and Iraqi authorities as planning and implementation proceed.
