Brazil, Minas Gerais: Atlas Renewable Energy and ArcelorMittal SA have placed the 315 MWp part B of the Luis Carlos Solar Park into operation, finishing the project three months ahead of schedule. The facility is ArcelorMittal’s first solar plant in the country.
The photovoltaic installation required R$895 million ($163.7 million) in investment and is located in the northwestern region of Minas Gerais state. It includes a 65 km transmission line with a 500 kV rating that connects the site to Brazil’s National Interconnected System. Implemented under a Build, Operate, and Transfer model, the project will transfer full ownership to ArcelorMittal Brasil in December 2025.
“All of the energy generated by the plant will supply our own facilities. This is another important step in diversifying our energy matrix, reducing operating costs, and strengthening our competitiveness,” said Everton Negresiolo, CEO of ArcelorMittal Long Steel LATAM.
