India / Egypt: India-based Sterlite Power has proposed building a dedicated electricity grid to support green hydrogen projects in Egypt, according to the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.
With an estimated investment of $5B–$6B (€5.5B), the project aims to enhance Egypt’s energy transmission infrastructure and advance its clean energy transition.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Sterlite Power executives and Egypt’s Investment Minister, Hassan El Khatib, during his visit to India. El Khatib stated that this initiative demonstrates global investors’ confidence in the Egyptian market.
Tushar Chhabra, Head of Business Acquisition at Sterlite Power, emphasised the company’s commitment to investing in long-term strategic projects that will help establish Egypt as a key renewable energy hub. He also noted that Egypt presents significant opportunities for expanding investments in the renewable sector, especially with the government’s focus on green hydrogen.
In recent years, Egypt has signed multiple agreements to develop green hydrogen and its derivatives. However, most of these projects are still in their early stages.
