SUV hits transformer, knocks out power

Canada, Saskatchewan, Saskatoon: Several west side neighbourhoods and downtown lost power on 25 March after an SUV plowed into a Saskatoon Light & Power transformer, sparking a fire.

The power station, at 33rd Street and Edmonton Avenue, was struck around 7:50 a.m.

The 53-year-old male driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Police reported traffic restrictions on Edmonton Avenue between 31st and 33rd Street, and were in place for 2 hours.

Saskatoon Light & Power said affected customers were switched to a temporary power supply.
