Romania: Romania’s national electricity transmission company Transelectrica is starting the execution works on the construction of the 400 kV Stâlpu Station and on the modernization of the 110 kV and medium voltage cells in the Stâlpu Station. The works are worth approximately RON 95 million ($19.7 million) and are scheduled for completion in January 2027.

Ștefăniță Munteanu, President of the Directorate: “The need to increase the power to evacuate electricity from renewable sources in the southeast of the country, but also the need to build the new 400 kV line that will connect the southeast system area, through the Stâlpu station, to the Transylvania area, in the Brașov station, as well as the transition to 400 kV of the Brazi Vest – Teleajen – Stâlpu axis, requires prioritizing the completion of the investment in the Stâlpu Station.”

The refurbishment of the existing Stâlpu station and the construction of the new 400 kV station are based on the need to evacuate the energy produced in the Dobrogea area by the future units 3 and 4 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, the construction and connection to the grid of new plants from renewable sources, and the strengthening of the security of supply. The completion of the new station will allow the connection of the 400 kV Cernavodă – Stâlpu Overhead Power Line, which is currently completed and connected to the Gura Ialomiței station, and also the connection of the Brazi Vest – Teleajen – Stâlpu Overhead Power Line Axis, after the completion of the transition works to the 400 kV voltage which are currently ongoing.
