The Philippines, Iloilo City: The National Grid Corp of the Philippines (NGCP) and MORE Electric and Power Corp (MORE Power) have successfully energised a new 100 MVA transformer at the NGCP substation in Iloilo City.
This upgrade effectively doubles the substation’s previous capacity from 50 MVA to 100 MVA, significantly improving the city’s power reliability and supporting its growing energy demands. The move is also seen as a catalyst for economic development and future investments.
Roel Castro, president of MORE Power, said the enhanced capacity will strengthen the reliability of the company’s distribution network, especially benefitting key areas such as the Megaworld and Jaro substations.
“This is a major milestone in securing a stable and dependable power supply for Iloilo City,” Castro said. “It positions us to better accommodate growth and attract new business opportunities.”
The energisation forms part of a long-term plan to achieve a total capacity of 3 x 100 MVA. MORE Power aims to upgrade another transformer within the year, reaching 2 x 100 MVA by the end of 2025, with full 3 x 100 MVA capacity targeted by 2026.
These upgrades address previous concerns about potential energy shortages and rotating blackouts, which had been linked to delays in critical infrastructure. “This is a collective win, showing our shared commitment to Iloilo’s brighter future,” Castro added.
