Germany: Trench Group has introduced Luminance’s AI-based platform to improve the way it manages contracts, significantly reducing review times and allowing more of the process to be handled outside the legal department.
Before adopting the system, contract reviews were slow, creating delays and increasing the risk of overlooking key obligations. To address this, the company began using the platform to carry out first-pass reviews, flagging areas that deviate from internal standards and suggesting suitable alternatives. This enables teams to focus only on the contract sections that need attention.
According to Tim Siewert-La Chon, Head of Legal at Trench Group, the change has eased the bottleneck in document review and given the legal team more time for business-critical advice. He noted that the improved process also provides clearer visibility of obligations and supports faster decision-making.
The company reports that average contract review time has fallen from around 150 minutes to about 30 minutes. In addition, around 80 % of contracts can now be reviewed by other departments, with only high-risk or more complex agreements being escalated to the legal team.
The impact is especially clear when comparing two recent projects. Assessing tariff changes across 700 contracts previously took 2.5 weeks. Using the new system, a similar task was completed in under two hours, allowing management to act more quickly with full access to the necessary information.
The development forms part of a wider trend, with many industrial companies exploring AI to improve operations, including contract handling and review processes. The shift aims to reduce manual work while enabling legal teams to focus on higher-value responsibilities.
