Australia: Vena Energy has officially commenced construction on its 320 MW Wandoan South Solar 2 project in Queensland’s Western Downs region. The large-scale solar farm, expected to become operational by mid-2027, will generate approximately 700 GWh of clean electricity annually, which is enough to supply around 120,000 average Queensland households.

By replacing conventional energy sources, the project is estimated to avoid 568,000 t of CO₂ emissions and conserve nearly 490 million litres of water each year.

Wandoan South Solar 2 follows the earlier Wandoan South Solar 1, which began commercial operations in 2024. The broader Wandoan South initiative also includes Queensland’s first utility-scale 150 MWh battery energy storage system, completed in 2022.

Vena Energy’s Owen Sela emphasised the company’s commitment to carbon neutrality and community collaboration, noting the project’s role in Queensland’s evolving energy future.

The company has secured a long-term power purchase agreement with CleanCo, a low-emission energy provider backed by the Queensland Government. CleanCo will use its unique pumped hydro capabilities to store solar energy for delivery during peak demand times.

At peak construction, the project will employ up to 400 workers, with dedicated opportunities for local and First Nations communities.
