USA, New Mexico: Vestas has wrapped up turbine installation at Pattern Energy’s 3,500 MW SunZia wind project in the US state of New Mexico.

With a total capacity of 3.5 GW, SunZia is the largest onshore wind farm in the United States. Once fully connected to the grid, it is expected to supply electricity to around 320,000 homes.

For the project, Vestas delivered 242 of its V163-4.5 MW turbines. In total, the development includes about 916 turbines spread across two separate sections of the site. Alongside the Vestas machines, the wind farm also features 674 GE Vernova 3.6-154 turbines and 10 substations.

The project will now progress to the commissioning stage, followed by connection to an 885km transmission line.

SunZia is located across Torrance, Lincoln and San Miguel Counties in New Mexico.
