India, Gujarat: Voltamp Transformers Ltd has taken a major step forward in its expansion plans by placing long-lead equipment orders for its upcoming transformer manufacturing facility in Gujarat.
According to a company update, construction is proceeding on schedule at the new plant located in Jarod, Vadodara district. In its initial phase, the unit will have an annual capacity of approximately 6,000 MVA, producing transformers of up to 250 MVA in the 220 kV class. The company also mentioned that future capacity enhancements will depend on evolving market demand.
The total investment in the project is estimated at $34.7 M (Rs.200 crore), which Voltamp plans to fund entirely through internal resources.
Currently, Voltamp operates two manufacturing units in Gujarat – at Makarpura and Vadadla. Looking ahead to FY26, the company is targeting full capacity utilisation, stating that sufficient demand exists in the market to support this goal.
However, the company has made it clear that it will avoid accepting orders with delivery timelines longer than nine months. Given current supply chain challenges, such orders could pressure profit margins.
As of 3 May 2025, Voltamp’s order book stood at $133.7 M (Rs.1,129 crore) (9,856 MVA), up from $99.5 M (Rs.840.66 crore) (7,839 MVA) at the beginning of FY25, reflecting a strong and growing demand pipeline.
