Weidmann to invests over $220 M in new transformerboard facility in China

Weidmann Electrical Technology is expanding its Transformerboard production with a new 38,000 m² facility in China, enhancing global capacity to meet rising demand.

Switzerland / China: Weidmann Electrical Technology is reinforcing its commitment to meeting growing market demand with the construction of a new 38,000 m² Transformerboard production facility in China.

This state-of-the-art site will play a crucial role in expanding production capacity. Construction is set to begin soon, with completion expected in the second half of 2026.

This latest announcement lifts the total capacity investments initiated in the last 12 months to over $220 M (CHF 200 M) to date.

Weidmann’s recently announced expansions include a major expansion of the Transformerboard production capacity in the US, as well as new insulation components facilities in the USA and Mexico.

In Europe, a new site for Laminated Transformerboard, Weidmann is enhancing paper production sites, launching a new Laminated Transformerboard facility, and increasing insulation component capacities across multiple locations.

“Our goal is to align our growth with the ambitious targets of our customers, ensuring that we, as an industry, can successfully meet the energy requirements of the future,” said Jurg Brunner, Head of Electrical Technology at Weidmann. “By expanding our footprint in China, we will not only better support Asia Pacific customers but also optimise capacity at our existing Transformerboard machine locations, thereby strengthening our capabilities in other key markets.”
